How to Save Money at Sunnymead Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This office is amazing! The care my golden doodle has been receiving has been top notch since the first visit. I was able to get an appt rather quickly wheny dog got sick. Medications are handled in office. The vet takes her time and doesn't make you feel rushed at all. Listens to all concerns and follow up appts are exceptional.

Looking through the list of veterinarian hospitals this one stands out cause of its star rating, but after reading the responses from the "owner" definitely will be going to a different clinic. Before you decide on this hospital I would definitely pay mind to the experiences others have had here. Regardless if your practice is to blame or not for their reaction, or animal illness, the owner takes no accountability for their staff, and tells patients that, "it's not their job to help everyone." I personally called looking for an appointment and the receptionist was not compassionate, and seemed very annoyed that someone was calling to receive service that they offer. You can definitely tell the owner believes that animal heath care is a privilege provided to the few they choose to service. #onestarmovement #piggybank #peta?

Horrible service for a few years now and today was the final straw. Have been trying to get a prescription for my dog, who has Cushing disease, for a week now because we needed to change pharmacies. We called and asked the vets office about it last Friday and told them after finding the different pharmacy what we needed. FINALLY after a week it was ready today and I go in and the last name is wrong! I had a name change three years ago and have been repeatedly asking them to change the pets and my last name in the system and they never would. Also, they did have my recent last name spelled wrong because it was missing a letter so even then I wouldn’t have been able to use it. I asked them if they could change it today because the new pharmacy needs the last name to match. They said "No, the doctor is in surgery and will be leaving right when she's done." I said I understand that but I just need her to change the name to the correct one. The male receptionist then tells me "well you should have thought about that before then." His huge attitude and him not knowing what he was talking about I snapped. After cussing him out for how he spoke to me, I took my dog and left. I feel bad for the girl who was helping me and apologized to her while she repeatedly apologized for this man’s attitude. The service and wait time has been ridiculous here the last few years and they definitely need to update certain staff members who seem to hate their job. I will be finding a new veterinarian office. Hopefully they’ll be more respectful and won’t blame their clients for their incompetence. I like how they won’t accept responsibility for how their horrible receptionist was acting. Is that better “owner”? Have a great day! :-)

The vet and vet techs are great. Wait times however, are not. Even if you are just dropping off or picking up your pet after surgery (after they've called you to say your pet is ready), expect to sit in the office for an hour.

If I can give less than a one star review I would. A couple years ago now this hospital refused to help me and my mother when our beloved family dog was undoubtedly dying. Two women were working this day and carelessly told us we needed an appointment and told us to leave, less than an hour later she would be put down at the Moreno Valley Animal Hospital who took us in without hesitation and were some of the most compassionate workers we had ever met. I never got over that day and could not have imagined how this hospital, which I had saved prior because of these amazing reviews if we ever needed them, made it that much more traumatizing. I also truly hope those women never forgot it, if they still work there and even if they still don’t care, we put her down right after you rejected us by the way.
