How to Save Money at VCA All Creatures Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

If you care about you pet DO NOT! COME TO THIS PLACE! 3 days ago I took my pet that has in critical condition, the dr even said she was. And because I couldn’t pay $3000+ up front they did NOTHING for my baby. I paid $220 for an “emergency exam” but they didn’t even tell me what was wrong with her or even how to help her. They only gave the choice to pay up or take her back home knowing she was in critical conditions and may possibly die! Staff seemed heartless and only cared about the money. Even the dr didn’t want to tell me what was wrong with her until I got an estimate! We spent and an additional 2 hours waiting for them to give me back my baby. Once they finally gave her back to me and we got home she was weaker than before and look worse than when I had taken her in. Later that night she passed away in my arms….. That cat was my everything and they refused to help her cause I didn’t have enough money?!?! What kind of world do we live in that money is more important than a life! I had gone there for hope that maybe they can save her but instead I got rejected and my baby spent the last few hours alone and cold in a room with strangers. It’s inhumane what they did to my cat and me..

Absolutely terrible go anywhere else. Actually don’t go anywhere in the desert if you care about your pet, take them out of the valley. They have no remorse. They don’t care if they kill your pet. They do not have a reptile veterinarian. They say they do, but they don’t. They will gladly take your money though. Absolutely terrible experience. They didn’t even bother to call me back after I told them my baby died. No excuses for disrespect. I hope this helps you find a better veterinarian.

Jan 2021 UPDATE: My review for Dr. H remains the same - however, I am updating my comments due to my recent communication with the front desk staff. I am currently travelling and wanted to ask Dr. H about a medication that was prescribed to my little one. I didn't want a diagnosis or any other examination as I'm out of the Country until the borders re-open. The clerk who answered the phone would NOT allow me to ask any questions, nor send an email to Dr. H - my vet of choice for my little one's life. Neither empathy, sympathy nor any other caring attitude was conveyed other than I was wasting her time. I wanted only to get Dr. H's thoughts on the medication that was prescribed for Little Bit's heart while I was out of the country (Dr. H IS my little one's Doctor) and I wasn't given the opportunity to ask him a question directly. Dr. H has ALWAYS reached out to make sure Little Bit was healthy. He very well may have responded to say that I needed to discuss my question with the vet from abroad that prescribed the medication. But I was not even afforded that communication with my dog's own Veterinarian - I'm not certain how the front desk staff have the type of authority where they - alone - can decide which clients can speak to their own veterinarian? VERY different Customer Service since my last visit in 2020. Too bad. This Review was from 2020 It's very rare to find a Veterinarian that makes you feel so lucky to have found them! Dr. Hyun (Dr. "H") at VCA All Creatures is that person! My baby girl is 12 and my every day joy! I relocated back to the Desert this month and found that my favorite vet had gone to NC. I visited no less than 3 hospitals and met each of the Veterinarians to experience their 'bedside manner' so-to-speak, in order to decide who I was going to trust to care for my little one. The minute Dr. H walked into the room, I KNEW. His smile meets his eyes; he is so genuinely caring about my girl and I didn't hesitate to book the procedure with him. Little Bit is an older girl, so I was extremely anxious about her going 'under', but EVERY single person I met at VCA All Creatures was NICE, smiling and still professional (it CAN happen!). Dr. H not only called me personally both BEFORE & AFTER surgery to let me know how Little Bit was doing, he ALSO called me the evening after I picked her up to follow up and ensure all was well. I can't say enough about this hospital and all of the team! I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Hyun and VCA All Creatures - they will set your mind and heart at ease that you have finally found the right place! THANK YOU!!

They are so caring and wonderful. Been going there for 25 years and 6 dogs. Piper the 13in Beagle just stayed 2 weeks with them when we had to make emergency trip back East. Loved my daily photos of him they texted. Thanks!!!

This was my first time at VCA All Creatures and I had an incredibly positive experience. From the time I first called, to the friendly way I was greeted dropping off my little one, to the personal talk I had with Dr Fenton, right through to picking back up my dog who was treated (and cured) for all issues. It was a short notice appointment because my dog had been bitten on the nose, and the staff led by Andie were incredibly accommodating and helped me feel very calm and confident during a scary situation for my dog. I’m now making this location my regular vet for all my pet needs, and I can’t speak highly enough of them!
