How to Save Money at VCA Noah's Ark Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Friendly Staff. Busy. But I was able to get an appointment within a couple days. I have two 1 year old Iguanas. Sid and Nancy. I learned a lot from my first visit on animal husbandry. I was informed about different options & choices that could or should be made. I struggled finding a veterinarian who is knowledgeable not on just reptiles. But Iguanas Specifically

TW: loss of pet I brought my dog in at the beginning of the month for vaccines and to discuss what I believed to be facial seizures and hair loss on my 3 year old dog. They told me that the hair loss was consistent with allergies but did not at all address the concern that I had about her facial seizures, even though I had taken videos and showed them. This past Monday, my best friend had her last seizure and passed away. I do not necessarily place the blame on the vet for the loss of my dog but I feel that if I had been taken seriously and my concerns had been addressed, I would’ve had at least a little more time with my best friend. She was so young, so full of life, and gone too soon. If you bring your pets here, please advocate for them. Do not let them brush off your concerns. You know them better than anyone and if something seems off, don’t give up.

We took our 4 year old Lhasa apso/shitzhu here for a free first exam. We had some questions and concerns about various ailments, potential procedures, and other inquiries that we wanted clarity on, and we wanted to bring him in for a general checkup. The location was easily accessible and has its own parking. It was not crowded at all on a Saturday afternoon and they have tons of various treats for dogs and a fancy espresso/tea machine for humans. Every one of the staff was incredibly attentive, caring, thorough, and knowledgeable. Vanessa; the vets assistant, and Lauren; our veterinarian did an amazing job with the checkup from explaining everything, listening to our concerns and questions, caring for our dog, and putting in a plan for the future of our dogs well being. thank you so much! Picture is our happy Cosmo boy after the appointment.

THEY SEE FANCY RATS! The absolute best vet I've ever been to. Staff are compassionate, empathetic, patient, and dedicated. Appointments are timely and they actually listened to my concerns. Dr. Sinai even dimmed the lights so my rat felt more comfortable. In five years of being a rat mom I've never had a better vet than Dr. Sinai, and I will always be grateful she was the one to help us when she did. Second review: On an extremely hot day I had to leave my house for a while with both my rats and not even our car has AC. My rats are two old ladies with cancer and they were really suffering so I brought them to the VCA clinic hoping they could help. Not only did the staff make them comfortable until we could all return home, they made me feel better too. They are life savers, and true animal lovers. Thank you once again for having such a positive impact on my family.

On 3/14/22 I called VCA regarding a vaccination that was given to my puppy on 2/14/22 and how I was not informed by the vet tech another appointment needed to be made for the same vaccine. The reason this was so inconvenient was my puppy was to be enrolled in daycare and this was a required vaccine. The daycare employee is the one who explained to me the specific vaccine required 2 doses not just one. The receptionist at VCA who I was talking to was very understanding why I was upset as this derailed how I was to provide care to my pup and stated they would bring this up to a manager. They later called me and offered me an appointment to get my puppy vaccinated for the second dose and I was happy they were able to rectify that part. I scheduled my pups influenza and last parvo shot, i informed the receptionist that I did not want rabies as I want that to be given alone. My partner took my pup to his appointment and the vet tech verified he was to be given parvo, rabies, and influenza after i specifically told them no rabies. Luckily my partner told the tech no rabies was to be given that day. The tech come out with my pup coughing and my partner asks why he is coughing. The vet tech then states they gave me dog a “treat”, my pup is on a special diet and derailing from that can make him sick. He told the vet tech to not ever do that again as he was on a special diet. This could have potentially given my pup an allergic reaction or made him sick! Luckily neither of those scenarios happened. I am so upset by the utter lack or communication and feeding pet parents pups treats without consent to do so. The communication that was supposed to be fixed was not fixed and let to another bad experience. I wanted to give VCA another shot after the first incident but this just pushed me into not wanting to come here again and I will be searching for a new vet in the area.
