How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

So I know finding a good vet Dr / hospital who truly cares about our fur babies is a struggle but Banfield fremont has been amazing . They have been so good to my puppy , I have been bringing my puppy since 8 weeks old and they always go above and beyond. We just had him neutered and they have called more than a couple time to make sure he is healing well. Love their attention and love toward my sparrow .

My little 11 pound dog has a wellness plan with Banfield, and when she has the dental cleaning they still need extra charge of $1060 for the x-ray and extraction of one bad tooth, and the doctor has little patience to explain things. It makes us feel like it’s a robbing. Too expensive and the doctor just assume we should hurry up and pay! Story Continues One Year Later: we’ve been extremely busy to find another vet clinic with simple wellness plan, since Banfield keep on with the monthly charges for another year, we stayed with them and this time for the yearly dental cleaning. You know what I found out: since i posted a complaint about the expensive tooth extraction a year ago, the whole clinic trying to get their revenge: we’re about to Ok the tooth extraction this time, but during the phone call from this doc(I don’t remember her name), she said she’s not comfortable to do it, if i change the dental cleaning schedule and go with another doctor from Fremont clinic, they won’t be comfortable to do it either… then I figure out they just using this way to get me spend more money the the tooth extraction thing because if I go to another place I have to pay lots of fees again like bloodwork, anesthesia and other fees not including the expensive tooth extraction itself… That’s very dirty and no morality since in order to revenge the owners they can put animals wellness at negligence. So they deny the tooth extraction services to my dog but still taking in the membership fees, and if I take my almost 17 yr old dog to another place, she has to go through the procedure twice with in short time, I don’t know if her old age can handle it. They’d rather to waste my time and money to get their revenge and won’t say things frankly and directly, what’s worse is that the operation of this chain clinic is so vicious by doing so to my senior dog. I’m thinking to seek help from a lawyer now.

The staff is highly incapable of keeping appointments or answering phones. Honestly just don’t waste your time going here. Horrible service. They do not care about you or your pets well being. Don’t believe me ? Find out for yourself.

This location quoted me $1,179 for a health certificate for my dog, when a different Banfield location quoted $136. Do your research first before being bamboozled like this.

This banfield always takes good care of my puppies. The staff is friendly and helpful.
