Took our new to us kitty to Pajaro Valley Vet and she was very well cared for. The entire staff was careful with her, kept her calm and had excellent suggestions for her health. One of THE most important aspects to us is that the clinic is locally owned and not part of a huge private-equity conglomerate. We’ll recommend them to our friends!

Took our maltipoo a year ago and she was misdiagnosed and mistreated. He kept making us come back and make vet visits and made us buy unecessary medication that clearly was not working and any home medication we would ask about if it would work he would deny it and tell us not to even try that. Along with that, the vet doctor would make fun of our dog and make jokes of the situation while she was in so much pain as she had a yeast infection and would constantly create hot spots on herself since she would scratch herself and make herself bleed too much. Do your own research and try home remedies like we did or go to a different vet, definitelyyyy avoid this one.

Long story short: Dr. Brooks is condescending, defensive, and belittling. I miss the old vet. We’ll be finding another vet. The assistant was sweet and pleasant, though. Zero stars if I could. Long story long: Our dogs have been life-long patients of Pajaro Valley Vet. Recently, I moved with my pet (Leo) to Newport Beach. Shortly after moving, he was diagnosed with epilepsy. He was treated for several months by another vet (who we like). On a visit home, I decided to ask Pajaro Valley Vet for a second opinion. I went in, and Dr. Brooks borderline yelled at me not to put Leo on NexGuard when I simply asked for clarification. He went on for several minutes ranting about what epilepsy is and how it works without pausing to ask me any questions or to ask me if I had any questions. Then he says finding the proper medication to treat Leo’s epilepsy is a discussion between me and my vet. Um?? Ok, so you’re the vet. I am here to have that discussion with you. I asked if he could help me choose which treatment could be right for Leo (since he wasn’t making any suggestions). I say, “I came for a second opinion, and I feel like you didn’t give me one. You just gave me a lot of factual information but didn’t actually make a suggestion or give an opinion.” Dr. Brooks immediately gets defensive and says, “Ok, sorry I wasted your time. You should have gone to a neurologist. Next time go to someone who won’t waste your time.” Dr. Brooks attempted to leave as soon as he finished saying this. I get emotional and my eyes begin to well with tears from Dr. Brooks’ attitude toward me. As I continue to speak to him as calmly as I can muster, he is actively trying to leave the room while I’m speaking to him. What??? Firstly, I never said Dr. Brooks wasted my time. I was simply advocating for my pet to get what we came to the office for: an opinion. If I wanted only a blurb on what epilepsy is, I could have googled it. I cannot, however, magically decipher what medication we might try next or if we’re on the right path. Secondly, of all the things he did say, he didn’t actually ever say I should consider going to a neurologist or that seeing a neurologist was an option. How was I supposed to know?
