How to Save Money at Solano-Napa Pet Emergency Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The quality of care really suffers in this hospital because they're so busy. There's a lot of waiting, and I get that, because there are emergencies happening. Unfortunately in my case, I came back after speaking on the phone with the doctor to authorize the humane euthanization of my cat once they realized from testing that she was very sick. I waited in the waiting room and in the private room. When Dr. Li arrived, my cat had already passed away without me, and we knew it based on the way she was holding the bundle in her arms and fumbling with the light switch before she even said the words. She said it they had been checking on my cat frequently, and it happened probably only 20 minutes ago. If I had just been let in and the process had been started sooner, I wouldnt have missed my chance to say good bye. It took us another hour to get out of there because the doctor never came back after leaving to "give me some time" with my cats body. I had to flag down two different vet techs to help move our case along and also to request a refund of my payment for the euthanization. I had to ask them to remove all the tubes from my cat when they said I'm "all set" to leave. Again, I get it. It's an emergency clinic, and I know some cases have more hope than others and I want the animals that have a chance to get the attention they deserve. But my case could have been handled a lot better and the experience will stick with me for a long time.

My Bear was seen twice at this hospital. The first visit was a success. Bear had a severe laceration on his neck. they did a great job with him because he could be a bit aggressive for a little dog. Three months later they could not save him and we had to put him down. I brought Bear home. They rapped him real snugly like a baby. I had Bear for 7 years and should have had him 7 more. He was attacked twice by the same dog in his own home. The dog has been put down also. Thank you for not giving me a vet bill. The second process was on the house. Bear is home and at peace. His resting place is much nicer now.

I actually used to love coming here and all the staff especially the receptionists used to be so sweet and caring. Obviously, this practice has gone through some change and not the same anymore. I first noticed during my last visit when I spoke to someone (over the phone) regarding my estimate. They now take your pet to the back without you for the exam, then call to go over/approve the estimate, and the doctor calls to go over everything and you never really meet in person. When I spoke to the individual regarding my estimate I first noticed that their prices increased significantly, then when I tried to tell him I didn’t want to have certain things done he tried to imply that it was all or nothing. Once I questioned that he said he would speak to the doctor and then removed the items. My most recent visit was last night. I showed up to unfriendly cold receptionists that seemed to think it was funny that there was a 2-3 hour wait. They asked me why I was there and then slid a small piece of paper in front of me and said to go register online and then come back to make sure it went through. I registered and then confirmed it had went through and then was told to go home and that they would give me a call to come in once I was second in line. This was around 9:00 pm and we waited up all night/early morning before finally going to bed to try and get some sleep before taking our pet back in and but still no call 11 hours later. I guess our pets situation wasn’t enough of an emergency for them.

I had an awful experience here. Took my dog in to be cared for and and spent $1400.00 because she had blood coming out of her mouth and bottom. I was told she was fine and nothing is wrong other than an angry tummy. Took her into a vet the next day same symptoms ( spent $200), to be told she had a nasty bacterial infection and was shedding the lining of her intestines and that antibiotics were needed. She was better within a day. The staff was swearing so loud about whatever they were talking about in front of my children and the doctor would not come out and talk to me about my dog even though I was in the waiting room! Worst most awful experience and I will never bring my dog again. All they cared about was taking my $$ not finding out what was wrong with my dog!

I give this place 0 stars. People there were rude., I brought an 18 year old sick cat to them.. Because they advertise, they would do all kinds of tests and give medicine on their website for under a $140. When I arrive there, people at the front desk were rude to me. And they acted too busy to help me. They took my animal from me, took her and back,And within 20 minutes came back to me and said. Oh, you're animal is sick. And we want a $1500 to Diagnose the animal. And then when I said I don't have that much money.. I thought you were a low cost vet, They told me well, just wait about a 1/2 hour before the 40 minutes. And perhaps we could get a better estimate and lower the price a bit. They got back to me at a $1200. 45 minutes later, then when I started to discuss Euphonesia with them The first response was, oh, we don't do that here. We don't like to put animals down. Try to make me feel guilty about getting my cat of 18 years out of its pain and suffering. Then finally had to wait another 40 minutes with them Telling me that I can't put a price on love. And that's they would like to try to diagnose , The cat better. But I would have to pay a thousand two hundred dollars for that. Money I don't have. I love that animal darely.. I decided to have them put the cat to sleep. Because I know that it was in much pain and I love the animal Dearly. And yes I had to convince them to put the cat to sleep. They tried to make me feel guilty, they tried to make me feel like I was cheap they tried to extort all the money they could from me because my animal was sick, I feel they ripped me off and stored my animal from me, and the animals live from it. Please do not bring your animals to this veterinarian, they just try to gouge you on prices and try to get the most money they can. a they are not interested in The quality of life for your animal. They just want your money, avoid them at all costs because if you don't, it will cost you. And most likely it'll cost your animal, it's life.
