How to Save Money at Acadia Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I just got a goldendoodle puppy a month ago and feel so blessed to have found Acadia Vet Clinic near my home. I discovered them by just driving by one day and thought I'd stop in to check them out. With an unexpected drop in visit, you never know what kind of greeting you're going to get. Candy stopped what she was doing and filled me in on all the shots and the like that a new puppy would need. With that warm first impression, I decided to bring Finn in for his first check up with the vet. Dr. Eric spent about an hour with Finn and I on that first visit. He patiently answered all my new puppy questions with a smile and enthusiasm. I've been in several times now getting Finn all of his vaccinations. Every time, I've been pleased with the friendly, welcoming staff and environment.

The generosity and help of Dr. Eric and the clinic staff were very helpful for my family's lovely retriever, Summer. They helped us understand each other and become a closer and happier family. Although I studied through various articles and YouTube, my family and I were not as prepared as we thought we were. Like most beginners, we made several mistakes and were in need of a helping hand. They explained to me in detail what I needed to know about raising a pet. They described what I needed to be careful about. Whenever I visited the hospital, the staff would always reassure and calm Summer down with loving eyes and a soft tone. Not only are they very professional, friendly, and cautious about their work, their cooperation and work ethic are fantastic. I really recommend this hospital to anyone who owns a dog or a cat. Thank you so much to Dr. Eric and the staff.

Even 1star is too generous for this place. I wasn’t even looking for a great place, just a normal would have been fine but just like all the recent 1 star comments, the staff here are very unprofessional and doesn’t know a bit about customer service. Here is what happened for me. I get a call from them asking to drop off my puppy early because they can not see her at her scheduled time. I do a favor by rearranging my schedule to drop off in the morning and picking her up around 3pm. Told them my pick up schedule is very firm as I have to pickup and drive kids around from school. No call all day long and I tried calling from 2pm feeling nervous about my pickup time and no answer. I decide to cancel all my afternoon schedule and head to the Vet at 4pm and waited for 1.5h and finally they open the door. By this time I have seen several people come and leave and 2 others waiting before me. I wasn’t going to get upset because I understand things happen but I was at least expecting them to at least apologize for what happened, but even that was too much to ask for…. They were completely oblivious and acted as nothing happened and just asked me to pay. At that point I just lost it. Even after confronting, no apologies but instead a cold stare as if to say I don’t care, just give me your money. For those who is reading this, please save the hassle, stress and money and avoid this place even if this was the last Vet on early. Oh I forgot to mention that they charged me for leaving my puppy for a day as well. I can go on and on but I will stop here.

Dr. G at Acadia Veterinary Clinic is truly wonderful. My dogs love going there, which is rare for trips to the vet! They literally bound in there and immediately run to the staff for scratches and love. The service is very personal. Dr. G. knows all the pets and is very caring and kind with them. He has been able to give us great advice and care plans for our pets health issues. He always takes the time to talk to us on the phone if needed for additional help or information. The staff there is knowledgeable and very capable as well. The services are also very reasonable priced!
