How to Save Money at Costa Mesa Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The Worst! Go Anywhere else! I have been going to the Costa Mesa animal hospital for over 20 years with two pets, and the service has always been mediocre at best, between the staff at the front, who could care less about you or your pet and the horrific medical advice the doctor gave me which, ultimately killed my pet, however, they got their thousands of dollars out of me first. Now, they’ve lost my dead dog, and have no idea where he’s at. This is the most unprofessional, unfeeling, uncaring animal “hospital” I have ever had the displeasure to work with, and I will never step foot in here again and neither should anyone else if you care anything about your pet. All the staff at the front should be ashamed of themselves for the way that they treat people and hopefully they will take this review as a learning lesson.

This Hospital is a SCAM!!! Do not bring your pets here to get ripped off. 4 pets in here this Wednesday 8/16/23, for my Morkie, and cat, and 2 rescue kitten. The kittens need vaccines, and bath, and the morkie and cat just needed flea treatment and bath. My bill is a whopping $1,144.15, they tacked on all these charges, like used car dealership!!! And the worst service ever on top of that, I just got off the phone with Jennifer and she said she could not help because I was upset, talk about caring! Front office don't care, they are just RUDE. I called the office today, to ask when the flea medication would kick in because my dog still has 100 fleas on her, and I had my home flea bombed the same day the pets were in the vet on 8/16/23, using 4 bombs, and where there was carpet, I treated them with Diatamaceous Earth. They said, they can give me another flea medication in one month and that is all they can do for me. Then I asked them to correct the receipt because they charged all 6 flea treatment on one kitten, and my insurance only covers 25 per cat. The manager Marlene proceeded to tell me that if she does change the receipt, that because their system is set up that way, that I would have to pay for the full price....? I was like what? /dr. rumm told me to get 6 for the cats since I have 3 cats and I get $15 off. So Marlene told me I need to pay $15 for her to correct the receipt....???? And I had set an appointment for my cat to get his teeth brushed, without putting him under, and Dr. Rumm explained to me why he does not recommend it. I do not want to put my cat under anesthesia for teeth cleaning, that is so toxic and bad for them. They didn't brush my cat's teeth because want me to pay $150 for the Anasteshia instead....this is not good for pet to get toxins put into their tiny bodies, I am not stupid. This Animal clinic acts like a full fledge cheap Sales office. In conclusion, do not bring your beloved pets here if don't like being up-sold constantly, like you're at a used car dealership. The doctors are sales people and the staff are just RUDE period and they don't care for the welfare of you or your Pets. JUST AWFUL.

Got me in same day when i explained the situation with my dog. Got me in to the room as i literally walked through the doors, everyone was sweet and very informative. Our dog has been doing well since we visited, if I lived there i would definitely use them as our pets vet.

I love this place! Front desk people are amazing! The doctor is amazing! I ran up a tab and didn’t know about it I though they had my card on file and they told me I hate an outstanding balance and they told me “just pay it when ever you can” they never turned away my cat because of that these guys are the BEST. Only place I come too. They always take care of my two guys❤️

Horrible Service, the front office people are downright rude, and the prices are ridiculous, not to mention, the Vets, they don;t care about you or your pets, they are just trying to sell more services. Beware, and don't bring your pets here if you care anything for them.
