How to Save Money at Central Coast Pet Hospital and Emergency

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We’ve used CCPEC several times over the years when our pets have had emergencies after outside of our normal vet’s hours. They have always been amazing! The staff is kind, patient, and understanding. They do their best to make you feel less anxious and to treat your pet as quickly as possible. You can tell they all love animals and if you have to leave your pet overnight, you KNOW they’re in good hands. My dog Dex and I highly recommend!

I’m not going to leave a poor rating when clearly this office has served many pet owners well. However, If it’s not clearly life or death or your pet isn’t in intense distress, I wouldn’t spend the money to come here. $172 for a visit is the base cost - which is already too much. I brought my 6m old cat in tonight as she was having facial swelling and was lethargic/feverish after getting a FELV shot today. First failure is my regular vet not advising me of this being a common symptom in cats after vaccines. Second failure was me calling the CC Pet Hospital and being advised by the technician that they do recommend I bring her in because of her symptoms. After waiting 45 minutes to be seen by the veterinarian, my cat was still feverish but all swelling was gone. I was told by the veterinarian that all her symptoms were perfectly normal with some cats with vaccines. Wonder why the tech was so adamant I come in. The staff themselves are overly loud and overly “friendly” considering the sensitive nature of being at the emergency vet. Not good bedside manner whatsoever. When the technician came out to speak to me while I paid $172 for the vet to look at my cat that was already FINE (per the vet) by the time she was seen, I tried to explain why it was upsetting to be told I should come in and to have the vet act like it was completely not necessary for me to be there. The tech was very condescending which wasn’t surprising. I’m grateful to have an emergency vet so close in case of a REAL emergency and it seems like for that they are good. Maybe they should consider not charging an insane rate when they spend five minutes with your pet and tell you everything is fine. I understand that they are offering a very necessary service, but they need to work on their customer service and consider if the rates they charge are actually ethical.

The entire staff was very friendly towards us and our girl, Molly (who managed to get a foxtail shoved up her little nose and needed a small procedure to remove it) ☹️ From the time we walked through the doors, to the time we left with our girl, they were very kind 💕 As we waited in the lobby, we saw their kindness shown to all the other pets and their ppl as well 🥰 Molly says, “Thank you!”, as do we 💕🙏🏼

My 11.7 yr old Milo was having cat cold like issues and getting even an emergent appointment from my Vet was - well forget it. They suggested CC Pet Hospital and Emergency. CC Pet Emergency determined that Milo had an URI and they took very good care of him. Everyone was very professional with special appreciation for Dr. Couper, DVM who thoroughly explained every action taken along with suggestions to prevent future URI. She really cares about what she does and it's appreciated. Milo is doing much better now. Thanks to everyone at CC Pet Hospital and Emergency.

They were really sweet with Shorty, took their time and went slow with him. They let him come to them. I really, really appreciated that since he is 15years old and takes time to warm up. No muzzle needed and he had no problems with being checked out. This is something I’ve seen him struggle with as he’s gotten older, but to see the patience they had with him, meant a lot to me. It’s rare to find that and I wish they could see him regularly. Thank you.
