How to Save Money at VCA Yorba Regional Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our little Bella rolled her ankle at 10 o’clock at night! She was yelping so bad and holding her paw up. We knew we had to take her in right away. I was worried that it was broken. I read reviews on other emergency vets and was terrified. We took Bella here based off of reviews and location. We soon realized that this is where we took our Chico over a year ago to be put down. They offered a good price for that procedure, a paw print keepsake and personalized box for the ashes. They were amazing then and tonight was no different. Dr. Forsberg was fantastic. She’s knowledgeable, caring and explains everything very clearly. Turns out it’s just a sprain. Monica explained the bill clearly, it was reasonable and she was very personable. We didn’t feel pressured to add on anything extra. We are leaving with peace of mind and a plan. Thank you for being there for us through the last day for our Chico and for giving us great news for our baby Bella. We really appreciate you all. Thanks again.

After being sent away by two local vet ERs due to high volume, we are actually so pleased we ended up an hour away at VCA Yorba Regional. Even though it was the middle of the night, the person who greeted us was incredibly kind and patient despite me being a bit frantic, and despite them getting an influx of referrals from several at-capacity clinics. Her demeanor was also very laid back and comforting, which helped keep us reassured things would be fine. The dr and everyone on staff did an excellent job of explaining what the course of treatment was, how things were going, and checking in throughout the night as they cared for both our pups. They also made sure to exercise special care and transparency when treating our highly anxious and reactive dog. The cute handwritten follow up card was a cherry on top! Sunny and Stanley thank you!!

Took my dog for their yearly check up and her vaccines. They took them to the back to give their vaccines.( first time I have experienced this) When I got home, she was not able to walk and she was drooling all over the house. Obviously they hit a nerve. They told me she was having a reaction, so they gave Benadryl. Pay for a second time and my dog continued dragging her back leg for a week. Don’t let them take it to the back for them to practice on your dog!!!

A sincere thank you to the entire staff for your loving care of Dexter in the last weeks of his life. Dexter spent many weeks in Luxury Boarding and was always treated with love and care over the many years. He had a long life of 13.8 years thanks to the good care. Thank you to Dr Tatyama for your skill and years of care - thank you to the staff at the boarding kennel for giving him so much love and attention during his stays (you know who you are) and a special thank you to Dr. Geiger who supported me through his last days. RIP Dexter

Our dog Hydee is dead. She was boarded at VCA Yorba Regional Animal Hospital in June 2023. She went in a happy, healthy, silly German Shepherd dog, and came out a mess. She was sensitive around her head and neck area. A day later, she seemed in pain and eventually her front legs became paralyzed. She could not walk. We took her to two independent veterinarians (obviously not going back to the place that caused this) and it was confirmed that this was due to some kind of Physical trauma. We’ll never know what really happened in there. She died a few days later. It was a trusted facility and we used it for boarding several times before, but something has changed since the last time. It’s not the same place that it once was. Not recommended for boarding or anything else for that matter. We give it one star since zero wasn’t an option.
