How to Save Money at Oaks Veterinary Urgent Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Honestly very good and professional. I had called around many different vets and given the same response which was there we’re a full capacity. I’m calling on a Saturday and I understand that I have to be understanding as it is a weekend so I honestly knew I was in for it “checkbook wise”. I was blown out of the water with the level of care and service Oaks provided. I came in a wreck as my 5 week puppy wasn’t wanting to wake. They were so caring as soon as I came in they took my little boy and went to check him out. I was there maybe 5 min and right way I saw the vet and he let me know what was wrong with my pup. I am so thankful I was referred to u guys and I found my vet for my babies. The exam was affordable as well as the treatment.

Truly by far THE WORST experience I’ve ever had. My pup had an embedded foxtail so we called ahead to see if they’d be able to take her. The tech told us we could head over and it’s about $120. Sounds good! Walking in, not one person acknowledged my dog and further still even when headed back to the treatment room, still nothing. Without even examining my dog, the tech stated that it would be $300-$400 for the “surgery” (this is the first time the price changed from what we were originally told, but whatever, I she needs it, works for me). The tech proceeded to grab the leash and walk her out (again without even acknowledging her existence. Not even a smile or a word of encouragement). After 30 minutes, the doctor came back and told us that (even though she saw where the point of entry was) she couldn’t find anything, but if we wanted, we could pay an additional fee and sedate her and let her try again, but no guarantee that it would work with that either…. Honesty, if it seemed like they cared even one iota for my pup I’d say go for it. As it stands, not one person on staff seemed to care at all and honestly it was just a yucky vibe so we declined. After another 15minutes the tech came back and gave us a bill for $505….. for literally nothing. Truly, money is not even the issue, if you care at all about you pup, do them and yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

My cat sadly passed away recently but Agoura Hills provided excellent and sensitive veterinary care for him at the end of his life. I have piece of mind knowing that there is nothing we could have done but we tried everything we would. I went to 8 different vets for answers for why my kitten wasn’t thriving and Agoura Hills provided the most in depth tests and hypotheses and medications that helped him, even though there was no cure in the end. Both vets I worked with were at Agoura very thorough and knowledgeable. Be prepared for very long wait times though (like 4 hours) especially on weekends. Expensive but fair prices for a vet urgent care.

brought my dog in after i saw she bit the pads off her paws. the doctor and technician were very thorough and explained every charge. it wasn’t too expensive compared to other urgent care clinics i’ve been to. the place is very well kept and comfortable, they treated my dog nicely and we were out in less than 40 minutes. highly recommend!

We came to this clinic to get a second opinion on our sweet kitten. The first clinic we went to sent us home with no medicine for our kitten. The veterinarian and staff were so helpful and professional. This will be our new go to place. We had a great experience & luckily they were able to give our baby the medicine he needed to fight off his sickness.
