How to Save Money at ORACLE ROAD HOUSE CALLS

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Experienced, compassionate, reliable, & affordable. So glad he shares his expertise with our community. Dr. Cohn ran a great vet clinic for years before semi-retiring. // I called him about our cat - he arrived in about an hour on a Sunday - so glad he was available. // He helped our animals twice before - surgically removing a cyst and giving wonderful advice. Thank you, Dr. Cohn, for excellent vet services. You really care about animals. // I highly recommend Dr. Cohn at Oracle Road House Calls. He is a wonderful vet!

My 15 1/2 year old pittie had to be put down due to her age and health, I found Dr. Cohn online and sent him an email and he replied in a timely manner and asked for me to call. I gave him details of what was going on with my baby, he informed me of what my options were and costs. He was able to come out the same day to my home so she was comfortable and not scared. I chose to do in home service and him to take her after for cremation to be returned to me along with her paw print. It took a little longer than projected to get her back by a few days but that was okay because I was just really missing her and wanted her back home ASAP. I was very pleased with the work Dr. Cohn did and appreciate him coming to my home.

I just needed a rabies vaccine. 115 to in house. Dr. Cohen asked about my dogs other shots. Yep I'm a feed shop vaxer. There was a long pause really weird, creepy. It would be 140 for exam and other shots. He declined to vaccinate my dog. First time I ever called a house call vet. Unfortunately you need a vet to get rabies certification. He gave no reason . I've been a nurse for 40 years. You should probably find someone who knows how to communicate with the public. There are reasons vets,Drs, nurses go solo like this. Be aware.

Absolutely dreadful. I made an appt for my dog to be put down today, received a rather rude call at 10 saying they would be here at 11 (initially was told it would be in the afternoon). Attempted calling at 11, 12 and finally got a call back at 1… the doc was quite rude when I canceled the appointment as people who came to be with me had left. Was hung up on. Horrific experience.

Dr Cohn came out to my house at 9:30 at night since my precious TaMolly (16 y.o. Amstaff) went completely downhill within about 12 hours. He was kind, gentle both with her and me and explained everything he did - patiently answering all my questions. I cannot say enough good things about him and his services. he was the perfect vet to lead Molly over the rainbow bridge where she could chase squirrels ‘til her heart’s content. Thank you, Dr Cohn🐾🐾🐾!
