How to Save Money at The Scottsdale Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We have gone to the emergency room on a Sunday morning and the wait was not more than 5 minutes, they were kind and let me explain everything that was happening to my dog; They did blood and physical tests, the doctor clearly explained everything my dog could have and referred me to a neurologist, the payment was around $600, which included medicines. everything was clean in the waiting room but the bathroom was very dirty, that's the only thing that could say bad about this experience!

We had a late-night pet emergency with our dog. I quickly googled a 24-hour emergency vet clinic and found this place. It was only a mile away. So we quickly drove down and went there. If I could go back to that night I would have gone anywhere but here, to be honest. Now I will give credit where credit is due, and I will say they were very nice, very helpful, and super caring at first…. But! When they quoted us $3,600 to keep our dog for the recommended overnight care, which they almost demanded would be necessary to keep our dog alive. Almost like an ultimatum. We couldn’t even of paid that if we wanted to. We explained that to the tech. She then says “Well what could you guys do?” I thought for a second and I said “Honestly I only have like $400 extra” She then said “Hold on a second” Not even 5 minutes later she came back in and said “Okay well I was able to talk to the doctor and after some adjustments, we have your final total at $392.98. 🤯 mind-boggling. It went from a super important life or death situation, an absolute must to leave my dog here overnight, for $3600 to he can come home today for $7 shy of what I just told her I had to spend? Unbelievable. This place doesn’t care about the well-being or health of your pet. It is all about the money. After I agreed to pay the $392 they stopped caring for him, and brought him back to us with poop all over him, he was still completely sick with his tongue purple and he was seizing. They handed him to us and said have a good one bye. Trust me. If you don’t have money your pet is doomed here. I almost felt like I was at a car dealership. Complete and utter disregard for your pet's life. Money over everything. Also, the vet did misdiagnose my pet. Upon taking him to another vet after they were able to find out what is wrong with him. And to be completely honest, if we would have paid the $3600 to leave him overnight he would have died from being treated for the wrong reason. So I would of literally paid $3600 to kill my dog. Absolute disgrace. Go anywhere but here. I hope this place can learn from there misdiagnosis on my dog so that the error doesn’t happen again to someone else. I would gladly discuss this with the vet to let them know what was actually wrong with him. As of today my dog is 100% and was given another chance. Thanks to another animal hospital. For my $393 I received some hydration and some oxygen for my pet. That’s it. Thanks, guys!

Pray for me and my 8 week old puppy. They told me over the phone triage was free and it would stabilize the puppy. When I came in right off the jump they ask for $165 exam fee and $120 for parvo test. I told them over the phone and before service ALL I HAVE IS $400 it’s been four days since I just paid $1000 to get the puppy and I just paid rent. They don’t d payment plans… Parvo test comes back positive and I ask if they can hydrate him before we leave. Now they want over $400 to do so. Which part of the “free” triage was included? Why con people into coming in and then manipulate them into spending all they have?? Sad is the day that human kindness and compassion are dead. I just got done telling them I bought him for my disabled daughter and they’re going to say well save him if you give him to one of us. I asked for specific quotes going forward if he gets worse and it’s like pulling teeth to get an honest answer. They want you to come back in and spend thousands on the spot. So sad all they want is your money not to see animals get better. I brought $400 to get treated like I just asked for free service and to be told we’ll save him if you give him to us- never mind him being for a disabled 10 year old. Vet tech Jazmin tried to talk down to me saying they gave me a discount and when we broke down what they did - they gave me no discount just not the full service full medications or treatment. So there’s no discount just half service half cost. And what’s funny is the owner takes time to try and make clients feel ashamed writing multiple paragraphs speaking lies and it’s disgusting how sick their hidden prices are as the owner has no idea what I was quoted or not quoted, what’s sick is their need to attempt to embarrass someone rather than help, and what’s sick is the lack of compassion and accountability.

Professional staff, the vets are outstanding, the ancillary staff is always spot-on. Our little Maltipoo unfortunately suffers from GI issues, and we use this facility whenever she has a flare-up. They treat her well and with the compassion deserved for God’s little creature, with whom we share our lives. Totally satisfied.

Walked in Saturday and was able to get my dog’s vitals and confirm nothing urgent. They were wonderful then- our first visit. Then we went back today as a walk in once again as my dog still wasn’t acting normally. They got us seen quickly and the vet and techs and entire staff were wonderful. We will def be back and highly recommend.
