How to Save Money at Animal Specialty Group of Scottsdale

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Brought my 7 year old lab Dexter to my vet in March 2024 because he had been limping on and off for weeks. To my surprise my vet told me he had a torn ACL. She said surgery was the only option if Dexter wanted to keep up with his active lifestyle. She gave me a list of surgeons and I asked her "which one would you see if this was your dog?" She said Dr. Ross at Animal Specialty Group of Scottsdale. They did not disappoint and I live an hour away in Chandler but the drive was so worth it. I was hesitant to get the surgery as it is a big deal but I am so glad I went through with it. Dexter just had his 8 week check up with X-rays post op and his bone is completely healed. The recovery wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. The hardest part was holding him back from running and playing when he started to feel better just a couple weeks later. I highly recommend Dr. Ross and his team. The office is beautiful and so clean, I couldn't have asked for a better experience here. Now Dexter is back to his normal life besides running for a couple more months.

Dr. Trumpatori and his staff at Arizona Canine Ortho have been amazing! I highly recommend his facility. My dog Q tore his CCL (ACL in humans) Dr. Trumpatori took over an hour with us at the consultation letting us know what they recommend and told us exactly what would happen. They provided a webinar so I could watch the whole surgery. The nurse called after with an update on how Q was doing in recovery. The doctor called also a little later with details of how the surgery went and he emailed videos of Q’s surgery from the camera he used to clean up the CCL and meniscus tears along with details on the before and after X-rays. Q stayed overnight and night nurse sent texts with pics that night and again in the morning letting us know he was recovering well and settled. And that he is a very goofy boy! The personal care they gave is truly amazing!

I believe Dr. Lirtzman and Dr. Trumpatori are be among the best orthopedic surgeons in their profession. They replaced my dog’s hips with perfect new hips, and she had a smooth recovery thanks to their attention and care. I trusted them to give her the most safe and gold standard surgery that there can possibly be, and they did not disappoint. The staff, especially Michele at the front desk, were also amazing throughout her entire stay. They sent me photos and talked to me every day to let me know she was okay. I am over-the-top impressed by this place and genuinely believe it to be one of the best in the whole country if not worldwide. The exam rooms, building, and facility are gorgeous and thoughtfully designed for patient and client comfort. 150/10 LOVE this place! Edited to add: after 9 months dog is doing awesome! I added a photo of her trying to scale the fence at home! She has never been so active and pain free!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I waited until our dog was fully healed and back to normal to leave a review. Without a doubt this office the doctors and the employees are the best there is. The quality of their work is top-notch. They have amazing follow-up and walk you through every step of the recovery. I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. We price several other offices to have the same procedure and while this place was a little bit more expensive It was by far the best value. Are 170 lb Saint Bernard is as happy as ever.

This review is long overdue. I am trying to make a point to remember to do positive reviews, when we so easily forget because everything was positive. Dr. Lirtzman did both of my dogs knees which have helped up beautifully. It was like a brand new dog! I came here through a referral from a client and never looked back. I had an acl surgery for my old dog at another place and it did not hold up like Dr. Lirtzman’s work. He went through everything and explained in detail what was happening and the options I could take. I’m recovery his team sent me the sweetest pictures of Lucy. Since it was years ago I can’t add them due to being lost in the sea of pictures I now have. Recently, I went back with my boyfriend’s dog and they gave ample time and testing to make sure the issue was not orthopedic. They didn’t try to rerun any of the X-rays or other unnecessary tests. I fully recommend this clinic for any dog with orthopedic issues. Picture is of my dog years after my surgery living her best life!
