How to Save Money at VCA Mountain View Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The office manager is HORRIBLE and abusive over the phone. I’ve been to all kinds of veterinarians for 30 years with all sorts of canines, and I have never been treated so disrespectful and menial through no fault of my own .. I loved my old VCA location before they closed down. I would avoid this particular VCA. UPDATE : Emailed them on July 9 as per their request below. No response. Unless the office manager (beginning to think she was lying about that as well) is gone… I’d still recommend avoiding. I’ve already changed vets. Still stunned what occurred.

If I could give zero stars I would. Fortunately I loved Dr. Martin, the staff & Mary while at the VCA Northern location but since merging with VCA Mountain View my experience has been TERRIBLE. I have been unable to see Dr. Martin due to schedule but was able to see Dr. Hatcher for my Careclub visits for my newest pup and she is very unprofessional. I went in on 2 different occasions and she has constantly made me feel as though I am not able to properly care for my pup and as if he is being neglected. She made it seem as though we don’t feed him enough & as if he is always caked in urine. Mind you he is a rescue from a homeless man and was severely underweight when we got him & still has been working to get where he should be at his age. After my last visit with her and her making it seem as though he is neglected and caked in urine he had a visit with the groomers and I had even asked them to determine if he had urine on him or if they saw some type of color in the water when they washed him & they explained that he has ZERO sight of urine on him and that he was probably one of the cleanest pups they’ve had at their site. So why would she constantly say he had urine on him. To add to all of this I feel as though my visits were never visits as she was only ever in the room for 2 minutes max and would always rush through the visit leaving me with questions still. With my experience here at VCA Mountain View I have decided to cancel my care club membership and take my services elsewhere, where I will feel like family and my animals will be treated well.

Possibly one of the most useless Vets you could call for any sort serious issue or emergency. Our animals have been part of their Vet for many years and in a time of need they were quick to blow us off because they take in more than their staff can apparently handle. If you're unable to attend to the clients you already have why take on more? They are very fast to upsell you to their emergency services even for something that is urgent however not an emergency(currently). If you're looking for a Vet for your animal loved ones that is reliable in times of stress and need and not trying to book appointments weeks or months out or upsell you I would highly suggest finding someone else to take care of your precious pets.

Dr. Ansems is so caring and knowledgeable! She takes good care of my 17 year cat. She knows how much I love "Tux". Also, I must speak highly of all the wonderful front desk people and technicians they are so respectful and courteous! Thank you for all you do! ❤

I went to VCA Mountain View after adopting a kitten from the AZ humane society, as VCA gracious offered a free visit to each newly adopted animal, and I have kept going back. You can tell that the vets really care and the staff is always friendly. I highly recommend them if you are looking for a vet.
