How to Save Money at Soderstrom Veterinary

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

It was our first visit. We really liked Dr. Soderstrom, as well as the entire staff. He has a very easy way about him. I felt comfortable with him, as did my pup. I live an hour away. I was going to a vet close to home, but didn't like their business model. ( We recently moved from another state, so have to find new everything.) I received a diagnosis from that office which turned out to be incorrect. Our diagnosis from Dr. S. is still not good, but is accurate. The other vet gave me no options. No advice as to further tests, etc. I feel as though it's urgent to know exactly what you're dealing with, for many reasons. I will, in the future, continue to see Dr. S. Feeling comfortable with your doctor's knowledge and expertise is paramount. Especially when dealing with serious issues! I will gladly drive the distance from this point on. The office is very nice. We were put into a room with a leather loveseat and rug on the floor. It was spacious and comfortable. It felt more welcoming, rather than cold and antiseptic. This is so nice when you're dealing with serious situations. (I'm also working with a holistic vet, who recommended him. She is amazing, but is not a full service vet. The two of them, for our family, are quite a team. I'm very confident with the abilities of both!)

I can't even begin to express how great full I am to Dr soderstrom and his amazing team. There isn't a rating high enough I could give them. This day and age it's hard to find real , honest and caring genuine human beings out there. They go above and beyond, they kept me informed every step of the way. Thank you ❤️

Soderstrom Veterinary Surgery doesn’t deserve even one star. Terrible! Unprofessional! Doesn’t care what happens to your pet once paid. Almost lost my dog after the doctor performed an ACL procedure. I contacted him when I realized I had a sick dog, and he said he couldn’t see me until Monday and this was Friday during office hours, so I went to Southwest Veterinary Surgical Service where I was told my dog had sepsis and was in very serious condition. The doctor @Soderstrom Veterinary Surgery Center was notified by SVSS and left messages by me of the serious condition my dog was in but has yet to return my call or respond to my emails. This was all very expensive but the doctor @Soderstrom Veterinary Surgery Center did not care. . Here’s the review I gave SVSS: SVSS is the only place I will take my dogs in case of an emergency! They repaired an ACL surgical procedure that went terribly wrong, performed @ Soderstrom Veterinary , Surgery and resulted in an extremely sick dog with Sepsis. When the doctor @Soderstrom Veterinary Surgery told me I would need to wait for three days to see him even though I sent pictures and a thorough report on my dog’s condition, he would not even prescribe an antibiotic. I decided to get help elsewhere, so I went immediately to SVSS. My dog had to have the entire procedure redone correctly for a dog his size. He was also very sick with sepsis so had to stay in the hospital until he recovered. SVSS, later cared for my other dog that got into a Sago Palm and became very ill. I also took my previous Labrador when he developed cancer. Our most recent visit to SVSS was a follow up after the ACL surgery to remove the metal plate since our dog has fully recovered and is doing well! The staff at SVSS is so professional and they truly care. I feel like my pets are in such good hands there. They are available when you need them.

Dr Soderstrom is fantastic. Miss Flash lost her Wag in her tail, had it tucked and also lost her trot when we walked. She had surgery at the end of January on 2 busted vertebrae. By 2 weeks later she was all healed and authorized to be her 10 year old puppy self. The video is 2 months post surgery... 10 year old Flash Basset playing with her 2 1/2 year old beagle sister. This is our 2nd surgery with Dr Soderstrom. We came to him because of Flash's incredible results the first time around.

We take our females and puppies to the Vets here, they have wonderful doctors and they give great care. They also do ultrasounds on our females so we know how many puppies to be expecting. Fun staff and very nice and helpful!
