How to Save Money at Four Legged Friends Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had an opportunity to visit your clinic for as a "first time" client for a teeth cleaning for my pet. Being my first time at your clinic, I would expect all businesses to take this as a moment to introduce yourselves. Not one person that I interacted with introduced themselves.. not even the technician or veterinarian. I don't even know who took my pet to the back room for his cleaning or what her role was. The lack of transparency, explanation, guidance and direction of the what and why is just unacceptable.. and frankly lacks compassion, community, and personal connection. People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. Also, I'd like to give focus to the load music playing throughout the lobby as well as the back door slamming with every use...each tech going in and out off the back room, the door slams. These may all seem minor, but it's the experience that will create value in relationships, referrals and repeat clients for years to come. Simply introduce yourself to those that come into your clinic, wear a name tag or embroidered your staffs name on their uniforms. Know who is coming into your clinic prior to the morning shift, knowing that this was my first time, if I had an amazing experience, I would have referred so many people looking for holistic cleaning or a new clinic for their pets. Heck..I may have even changed vets. Simple turn down the music, choose calming music as not all pets are use to the hustle /bustle, and get a soft close hinge from Home Depot on your back door so it doesn't slam. Lastly.. there was no recommendation on next steps, next cleaning, no take aways or self help suggestions to support healthy teeth and gums, no recommendation on when to bring him back. It was a one and done experience all around.

When I first moved to Phoenix, I didn’t like my original vet. Two of my co-workers recommended Four Legged Friends Animal Hospital to me. It was the best recommendation ever. The staff is so friendly and kind over the phone and in-person. They take care all of my dog’s needs. The appointments are on time, and I never feel rushed. They take the time to listen and answer all of your questions. I moved to Chandler, so it’s about 45-minute drive for me now, but I’ll continue to make the commute because this place is worth it.

Moving with my 14-year-old dog has exposed us to various veterinarians nationwide. Prioritizing my girl’s well-being, finding a reliable vet in our new location was crucial. Following a recommendation, I visited a new clinic with optimism, only to discover the attending vet was a temporary fill-in, information withheld from me. This marked the start of a series of negative experiences. My consultation with the actual doctor lasted under seven minutes, with minimal attention to my concerns. The technician aggressively pushed an upsell during the conversation, which soured the experience further. Despite expressing my dog's difficulties during urine collection, the follow-up was unhelpful. The prescribed IV fluids offered marginal relief. Conversations with another vet at the office led to a medication prescription with a dangerously incorrect dosage, later identified by the pharmacist. Opting for a holistic and attentive vet elsewhere, I realized the initial blood work missed the root cause of my dog's issues. While the clinic may excel in routine procedures for new dogs, my experience revealed incompetence among techs and doctors. Despite courteous front office staff, my overall dissatisfaction ensures I won't return to this establishment.

The adoption agency I got my rescue dog from recommended Four Legged Friends. They have been wonderful and my dog has been treated great. Appointments run timely and don't feel rushed. Our vet was happy to discuss anxiety concerns and recommend some non prescription suggestions. They also performed a spay and dental extractions for us that went very smoothly. Thank you everyone at Four Legged Friends for the work you do.

Today was/is a very sad day for us as we had to make a hard decision no one wants to make for a loved pet. We painfully sad good bye to our kitty, Larry. He was a “gentle giant” and we miss him so very much. Thank you to Dr. Ferguson and Dr. Bienville, Pam, CVT and staff. The heartfelt compassion, the patience and professionalism was/is so very appreciated. I know it can be hard for those in this profession to go through this with pet owners on a daily basis, so we thank you again and again, for being strong for us. I would highly recommend the team at Four Legged Friends❤️!
