How to Save Money at Nogales Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr Escalada was excellent! Filled me in on what was going on in my little boys ear, did what he could do there and sent me home with meds to continue to use.

The doctor was so kind and gave me some great tips on my dogs teeth. They got me in for 2 rabies vaccinations right there on the spot as I was traveling thru. Great little place!

Love the staff and of course Dr. Escalada. He did so much for my cat that was poisoned by antifreeze. He survived one more week and ultimately passed away, but the care and compassion he showed towards Bandit and myself is priceless.

Fantastic service. We got an appointment on short notice- on new year's eve! The receptionist was nice. The doctor was nice and brief to explain a minor insect bite on the inside of our dog's mouth. We got outta there for a very minimal charge. Any other vet would've charged way more for doing such minimal evaluation and work for a very minor issue. Our dogs are working dogs for hunting. He recognized that and didn't take advantage of the situation. (This visit was back in January). We will gladly come back when we're in that part of Arizona again. Thank you so much for the great service and attention to our dog. Being that they are in Nogales, of course they are bilingual. Awesome!

Made an appointment 6+ weeks out for neuter of two pooches. 1. Arrived at 8:45am as instructed, closed sign still on the door and reception acted like they didn't know we were coming. 2. 6wks prior they said bring early, leave for the day to get neuter's done in a.m. or mid day and pickup at 4:30 after recovery from surgery. Good right? 3. Called at 3pm as we were told. They said all is good come at 4:30. Good right? 4. A 45 minute drive 3:45 to 4:30pm for 81 year old in south bound rush hour from Green Valley. Good right? 5. Arrived 4:15 and they wanted dogs left overnight, emergency case came in at 3:30-3:45 and could not do neuter's and could not even call us to say don't come down??? ..."we were the 'first' CLIENT of the day 8:45am !!!" The pooches had not been feed because of their expected surgery, our pooches spent 8 hours on their back room concrete floor waiting for treatment. 6. We hope the emergency case was taken care of for the animal. 7. So when they were told we would just take our pooches and leave after their 'administrative' staff kept crying that the clinic were the victims and treated animals all day from Tucson and just couldn't make a 3 minute phone call to us and tell us our pooches had not been treated, ...our pooches were not in recovery from surgery, (that should of happened earlier in the day). They then said, they would get it done by 6pm. (They did) 8. Yet we were told by the clinic at 3pm to come and pick them up, 4:30pm as expected and all was well with them and they are doing fine. 9. What the H_ LLL!!!' Lies from the 'clinic' !!! Then claiming, "OMG!!! ...oh my gosh!!!... 'we the clinic are the victims' the clinic are the victims leaving your pets on a concrete floor for 8 hours!!!, we the clinic are the victims that your pets haven't been fed and are hungry!!!" 10. ARE THESE PEOPLE FROM THIS CLINIC !!! SERIOUS !!!, they the clinic are '''''VICTIMS''''...
