How to Save Money at CARE Animal Surgery Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We love this place! The people are amazing, I wish Dr. Keats was a human doctor too, they are all wonderful at explaining everything and they are fabulous with my scared little dog! I have b4 and after pics of straightening her leg with surgery. Would recommend this place to anyone who loves their little fur baby!

Look this place and the staff were absolutely phenomenal except for one point and it turns out to be a major point. I adore how sweet the staff is and how they did actually care for my dog. When talking about the surgery and condition of my dog they were very thorough and they walked me through the financial aspect of everything three different times, with three different technicians, but unfortunately one aspect of the cost was glossed over. Surgery and everything at CARE was low end $4500 high end $8600, and that my dog would have to be transferred to a critical care hospitalization place for monitoring for 24 hours. (AVECCC//Golden State) that’s fine. In the invoice and during the talks about the bill, they had said that they would provide transport and that that would be apart of *their* cost. What was glossed over was the fact that the AVECCC place has a secondary charge. So after paying $7500 for the surgery we were then absolutely blindsided by AVECCC saying we owed them another $2,000. Not many people can fathom collecting nearly ten grand in 48 hours, I understand that I’m very privileged and lucky to be able to afford this care for my dog, I just really wish they would have been hard in explaining that “Yes we cost this amount for surgery but the critical care place will be an additional charge”. That wouldn’t have changed my decision, I still would have done it, but that second cost was never really mentioned, if at all - so I guess the bottom line is that if they tell you they’re going to transfer your babe please be prepared for a secondary charge. Like I stated in the beginning, the staff are very sweet and good at what they do, and I’m so happy that my dog is able to live and have a good couple more years in her. Jessica was an absolute doll, I appreciate her empathy. We were just blindsided in that second cost, and I just don’t remember - nor does my mother (who was there for the appointment) nor my husband (who was there for the phone calls) - that it was ever really talked about it. Service was excellent but that’s a major thing to kind of gloss over but at the end of the day my dog is alive and healthy and that’s what really matters.

I love this place and the kind employees. The Dr's are top notch and enthusiastic about their job. Our poor dog had been limping for several months and our vet couldn't diagnose it as hard as she tried. She recommended Care Surgery Center. Our dog ended up having wrist surgery and a bone graph. She's doing well and the employees treat her like a princess. Thank you guys!

Dr. Keats and the ENTIRE staff at Care Surgery Center were very professional, competent, thorough, and organized. Every detail was explained to me and I really appreciated the text updates I received throughout surgery. They had my dog’s surgery scheduled and successfully completed within 3 days of my initial consult. Everyone I dealt with at CARE deserves 5++++++++++ stars. Thank you all🙏🙏🙏🙏

This place is amazing, great care from the start, great and kind staff, very knowledgeable and work with you to make sure you don't have information overload. Keep in mind though It's a surgery center. It'll be expensive no matter where you go, so why not make the most of that expense and go here for your pet to have the absolute best care possible, by a staff of people who truly care about you and your furrball. The only issue I have is that there are no responses on weekends, but they give you alternative contact options to other available places, plus so much info and thoroughly cover everything your pet needs through the process it feels like you're just "checking in" not actually needing them. I came in for my pet Zelda to have a TPLO surgery, she's currently on day 5 of recovery and they have reached out to me to check in more than I've had to reach out to them myself.
