How to Save Money at Market Street Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

WE HAVE THREE DOGS THAT WENT TO THIS LOCATION. This place will rack up charges on your card and not call, text or email you till you owe almost $300 bc your cc expired AND then try to send you to collections. This could've been avoided with a simple call or text. Now they want to try to send us to collections for their mistake, we've checked our texts our voice-mail and our emails and nothing has come up till this notice. This is absolutely ridiculous. I / we understand cards expire and we can owe payments, but for, four months without notice is a shame on them. Again, we have no problem paying for what we signed up for, this is not the problem but the lack of communication is!. Let us know, give us a call and we will make it right. I have hopes their billing department will get it together and notify their loyal customers of billing issues. We've never missed a payment sending us to collections over $291.00 is ridiculous. And now, this one star will be shared throughout social media. All because you lied to us about "your notices"

At first, I liked this hospital. I wanted to continue liking this hospital. The staff is very friendly and nice. But their business tactics are worse than the US Government. If you step foot in this building, expect to pay a fee. If you have to cancel your appointment, expect to pay a fee. If you sign up for their wellness plan, you’ll pay a fee. Then when you go to use the wellness plan, you’ll pay another fee. I have never experienced a more shady business with what is charged at the end of service. I went in to have my dog checked for a UTI. They had me complete a urine analysis. The. Had me complete another because the course of antibiotics didn’t work. So they convinced me to sign up for their wellness plan, locking me in at $75/mo. I go to give them another urine sample as recommended by the doctor after another course of antibiotics, which I am then told will cost $66. No where in their pamphlet or paperwork does it say there is a limitation to how many times a urine sample can be done. There’s other hospitals in the area. Many others. Of those hospitals, they have more openings in the schedule, provide just as good of service if not better, and are much less expensive. I have paid all this money, got locked into a plan and my furbaby is still not better. I feel robbed. Absolutely nothing will be done to correct it and this hospital could care less.

This was my 1st visit to Market Street; I took my 5.5 mo old puppy in for a few concerns. From the 1st call w/Allison to the moment we strolled in, it was a great experience. The team was friendly & interactive. Dr Picard answered all my questions; he gave me clear & precise options. I’m a veteran dog / cat mom & am extremely picky & I’ll admit, judgmental, going to a new vet, as I’ve been spoiled with my vet in CA. Market St. is definitely where Sawyer & the cats will be getting their care.

I just moved here and was nervous to find a new vet. I did lots of research and decided on this place. I am so glad I did. Everyone is so amazing and they were able to get me an appointment the same week. My sweet golden is having some kidney issues and hates the vet but that is not the case with this place. She walks right in and is so behaved and not anxious and shaking. I didn't know that was possible with her. They have such great communication and compassion here.

I've recently brought my kitty Hogarth to Market Street Pet Hospital for his first check up and round of vaccines. Staff was super friendly and the Veterinarian was extremely professional, polite, caring and well educated!! Wonderful service!
