How to Save Money at North Buckeye Animal Hospital & Grooming

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot speak enough to the professionalism we received this week. We had recently adopted 2 kittens, and after losing one the week prior we woke up on Tuesday morning to our surviving kitten Gracie experiencing the same symptoms. We had an upcoming appointment at a different vet location, and when I called them that morning they couldn’t get us in until 1 or 2. I asked if they had any recommendations for other vets in the area and they gave us this hospital as a sister hospital to try. I called right after open, and they listened to my concerns and I was told that we could get our kitty in at 9am, which was in only about an hour. Upon arrival they took us very seriously and had Gracie looked at right away by the vet. They had us in our own room almost right away, so that we weren’t left in the lobby with our sadness. The tech introduced herself right away, and unfortunately I cannot remember her name, although I believe it was Brooke. The vet (whose name I unfortunately can’t remember at all) came in almost immediately after seeing Gracie and expressed her concerns in a serious yet companionate way. I was sitting down, and she knelt down to speak to us at eye level, which is a small gesture, but I really appreciated it. I knew bringing her in she wasn’t doing well, and the vet spoke bluntly about how serious our kittens condition was. Unfortunately, due to her size, the best thing we could do for our little baby was to euthanize her so she was no longer suffering. The vet allowed us to say a quick goodbye and the vet tech helped us handle what to do with her remains and pick out memorial items that we could have. They answered all the questions we had, made recommendations and handled everything with the ut-most professionalism. We would like to extend our most heartfelt thank you to the staff that assisted us on such a hard day, and thank them for what they do.

July 28 2023 we had to put my girl to sleep. This staff and Dr. Linehan was amazing. This vet has now a patient for life.. total trust, support, and care in every way it can be said. I would definitely tell you to take your furry loved one here..

Office visit costs are reasonable. The doctor was extremely patient and kind. Never did I feel they were trying to get more money by recommending unnecessary tests.

It has taken some time to write this, but I am so grateful for the compassionate care of this clinic. I called on 3/23 and was able to make a new client sick appointment for that evening for my 9 year old GSD, who was not doing well. When we arrived, we were immediately put into an exam room to wait, which was great with my sick and anxious boy. Sally was our tech, and we saw Dr. Linehan. Both made me and Varik extremely comfortable during the entire process, listening with compassion, handling him with extra care and love. They walked me through all of my treatment options as well as being transparent about cost and payment options. They provided excellent care to my boy even after they unfortunately found a large mass. They took lab samples and sent us home with meds to keep him comfortable and get him eating again while we waited. Unfortunately, 3 days later, on Sunday, he took a downhill turn, and we visited their recommended emergency vet, Blue Pearl, who helped him cross the rainbow bridge. My husband called to let them know on Tuesday, and we received a handwritten card in the mail with condolences. It was so touching that from only one encounter, there was so much care given to my sweet boy. Varik and I are so thankful for you 💓

Horrible place, bad service!!!! I purchased the package were all shots are included. (Almost $400) Took my puppy to get shots. When it was time for second appointment, I called them way ahead of time to let them know I need to reschedule the appointment due to having to go out of town for a family emergency. They rescheduled the appointment but failed to mention if I reschedule I will have to pay an additional $160 on top of the package. Therefore my puppy will need to go somewhere else to get his second shots because I am not paying and addition $160. They even forgot to document the shots in his vaccine card for the first set of shots. I was told by several people not to come here, it was to expensive, but I figured it was expensive because they would good. ( they say you get what you pay for) not in their case. It’s all about money. My advice before you make an appointment with them, make sure there’s no family emergencies, because you will have to pay more. They won’t tell you that though.
