How to Save Money at Moulton Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I very rarely post anything negative on here but I feel like this is important and information that the public should be aware of. This is my personal experience and although some may disagree I have to post because I almost lost my fur baby due to the lack of care given by this place. If you love your pets as I do and have genuine concern about their health please don't take them to this place! I took my 3yr old German Shepherd there 3 days in a row due to her having difficulty breathing, spotting blood and swollen stomach. I asked the vet about pyometra as she had symptoms of it and had a heat cycle recently. Pyometra is a serious, sometimes fatal disease that occurs in female dogs following a heat cycle. The vet seemed very unconcerned the 1st visit and I was told her lab's were normal and she was over weight. Symptoms worsened and I went back. This time I was told she had a UTI and given amoxicillin, however no test was done to come to this diagnosis. The next day my baby was very sick, lethargic and barely moving around. Once again I took her back and asked for a stomach x-ray because she was swollen worse, they did an x-ray, said normal and continue antibiotics and diet. At this point my dog had a very heavy pinkish color discharge of which I was told was normal with UTI. The vet still was very nonshalant about the whole thing and I was sent away with my dog in worse condition than ever. The fourth day she was in bad distress and I once again called the vet. At this time I was told in order to get her seen again I would have to pay again, on top if what was already paid for the other 3 visits or they would not see her. I decided to take her elsewhere and upon picking up her lab results to take with me I discovered that they were not normal as I'd been told but had four red flags for infection instead! I took her to All Animal Clinic in Leighton Al and they immediately checked her for pyometra and discovered that she was in serious danger. She had so much infection by this time that a full hysterectomy had to be done immediately to save my girl. Thank God for Dr. J. B. at All Animal Clinic, if not for him and his staff my girl would not be with me today. She would not have survived if I hadn't taken her to someone other than Moulton veterinary care. The lack of concern and poor decisions cost my girl the ability to ever have puppies but worse than that, it almost costed her life! All this could have been prevented or at the least treated with med's if she had been properly diagnosed at the beginning. So please don't take your fur babies to this place if you need care, take them anywhere but here.

Don't go there. Go to crows they are very compassionate with your animals and will do everything in their power to help your babies. We lost one I feel due to negligence and trusting a professional.. long story short we were told it was cancer to stop antibiotics when in reality it was an infection so by the time we started her on antibiotics again it was too late she passed that night. They ran no test did absolutely nothing that will live with me and haunt me forever that I did not get a second opinion. If it's something major I would recommend going elsewhere

Love Dr Justin and the staff!! Everyone is so nice and Dr Justin is very thorough. Prices are fair. He has always been great with our dog and I had to make an after hours call about my cattle and he walked me through the process on the phone and let me know if I need him he would be here. They are amazing.

i've had multiple health scares with 3 of my cats these past couple of months, the latest scare with one of them being in liver failure. this team went above and beyond and literally saved all of their lives. special thanks and shoutout to both Dr. Lee and Katie. i cannot recommend them enough!!

Do not take your pet here, this guy has zero compassion for animals, he will treat your loved one like cattle. The 5 star reviews are friends and family, that’s why there are so few, do not trust them. I wish I could turn back time and take my puppy to Dr. Crow, instead I allowed this place to put my little girl through so much unnecessary pain before she died. This regret will weight on me for the rest of my life…
