Would not choose again
After spending over $15,000 in 11 months for a bad vaccination we decided that our new dog would be fully insured. We went with their best plan. Now, I wish I hadn't chosen Nationwide. After being told that I did not need to submit medical records I was told that I did after submitting my first claim - which by the way was for vaccinations and a neuter - nothing more than what responsible pet owner provides for their pet, no crazy treatment or illness, just routine items. I was told no more than 30 days for them to be reviewed and my claims processed. On day 30 I called to find out what was going on - I was told that they needed 30 MORE days due to heavy volume to process my records and that a letter was mailed to me two days prior but it might take longer to get to me because I am in MI and it was mailed from CA (these are not the days of the pony express people). Funny how I get emails on everything else but that. As far as I can see if you are asking me for double the time frame you must have double the workload (which clearly you are not staffed for) which means that you are failing to meet the agreed upon expectations of 50% of people in my shoes. Not a good sign. I have a feeling that if I were to ask for 30 more days to make my premium payment they wouldn't be as understanding as they expect me to be. More than likely I would get cancelled. Unfortunately, I am at their mercy. Nothing about my experience with Nationwide has been good or as promised. Given that I have yet to get a cent on my claims I am giving them a rating of 1.

ASPCA is a 10
Our pet is special to us. She had an unexpected accident that required emergency surgery and ASPCA Insurance handled the Claim according to the terms of our policy and did so quickly and efficiently. It's easy to manage, easier to file a claim and seamlessly easy to use. Best of all it affords our pet the protection she deserves.

Affordable protection for a valuable family member
New active boxer puppy suddenly became ill, listless, vomiting, shaking. Rushed to MSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital, diagnosed within an hour, aggresssive treatment in ICU for several days, kidney failure and liver damage, near death. Leptospirosis suspected and confirmed. Puppy given best possible chance for survival. Cured with no residual damage to any system. Now supercharged with energy and affection. Vet inquired about pet insurance, bill was several thousand dollars. I replied we had a Trupanion policy..Vet relieved...said "they're excellent". He filled out our claim and submitted to Trupanion. Paid without question. We were /are thrilled...!!!

Best Decision We've Made
Healthy paws has been amazing for our dog over the past two years. We got it immediately upon bringing our standard bernedoodle home at 8 week in June of 2014. We have made three claims for Finn over the years. All three (though they varied in amount and type) were paid within just a couple of days, and were a breeze to submit. Our dog is repeat sock eating offender, and when he had to have surgery to remove one, Healthy Paws paid our claim quickly and saved us from having thousands in credit card debt. They even reached out personally to see how Finn was doing, and make sure he was okay. The personal service is spectacular, and their coverage options are great. We're actually bringing home a new puppy next week, and will have Healthy Paws covering him from day one. While the monthly fee may not be something that is fun to pay, having the comfort that when we need them most, they will be there is worth every penny. I recommend them to all of our friends and family, and there won't be a day that goes by that our pups aren't protected by Healthy Paws.

Worthless avoid at all costs (pun intended)
We have two English Bulldogs covered by AKC Pet Partners. This insurance is less than worthless. Veterinary completed claim forms are submitted and they ask for more records making the vet jump, through hoops. We call and are promised return calls that are never made. Unfortunately 0 is not a rating option. 1 year old female EB, severe skin allergies, hospitalized 7 days, denied claim because she was treated once for yeast in her skin folds. 10 month male EB luxating patella, claim denied, 2 days short of 180 day period, genetic problem, in spite of being aggravated by injury, claim denied. In my opinion this company should have their license revoked! Both claims were denied after SEVERAL weeks of being told "the check's in the mail".

If You Own A Dog - Get Healthly Paws
We just filed out first claim with Healthy Paws and could not be more thrilled to have our pet insurance with them. My dog Wally began to vomit for an unknown reason one evening. After vomiting twice overnight and being inappetent the following day, we took him to our emergency clinic. GI scope, radiographs, thorough lab work, and an abdominal ultrasound later did not reveal the cause of his severe gastritis. He required two nights of hospitalization before he turned the corner. I can't explain how comforting it was to tell the ER and Internal Medicine specialists to "move forward" to save our dog knowing that 90% of our bill would be reimbursed. He has needed additional lab work to make sure his CBC abnormalities resolved and that will be covered as well. In ONE mystery illness, we have been reimbursed more than we would pay for one year of insurance for our three dogs. We actually got the insurance shortly after adopting a young lab/pit mix because I used to work in veterinary medicine and saw SO many cases of GI obstruction in young dogs with very sad endings. I never really imagined needing it for Wally, but it goes to show, anything can happen.
If you own a dog, I highly recommend pet insurance, and Healthy Paws (in my opinion) is one of the best!

Used to be better
When I first came to ASPCA, they were so friendly and checked on my pet. I have been with them about 5 years with only one $80.00. claim which was processed very quickly! Now my rates have gone up without notice saying my dog is 10, we charge for senior dog now, again no notice. Well my dog was hurt very bad and I finally submitted a claim, they never have called, emailed or contacted me in anyway to verify they received the claim. Still waiting for reimbursement, called to check on the status and to see if they even received it and the customer service rep. was far from when I first started. I asked why it is taking so long and why no foloow up call like they used to. She said MAM, we used to be a smaller company and could offer faster money turn around and have more time to check on the pets but we are a much larger company now and I would have to wait longer for my money then I used to.!!! so much for this company!!
