How to Save Money at Veterinary Emergency Group
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Just amazing! My pup got very ill today and we were so scared. When we arrived they met me out back with her because she’s a little aggressive. We got kindly escorted to a room and they sat with my dog and really showed so much love and compassion! They help make you feel better in your time of need, and explain everything to you so you know what’s going on and what your options are. Just amazing! What a blessing !

VEG with MB on 6/29/24 Google review submitted on 6/30/24 ABSOLUTELY AMAZINGLY POSITIVE EXPERIENCE in light of a critical status of my 100 pound Nubian GOAT Moonbeam (aka “MB”)!!!!!!! What do you do when your his primary care vet is away on vacation, and you have an “exotic” loved one found with sudden-onset lethargy, profuse vomiting, and in respiratory distress? Every other practice I reached out to said they would not treat a goat. VEG said YES!!!! We loaded up and headed there. Fantastic staff, empathetic and caring from us hitting the door to loading up to go home. I have worked as an emergency trauma unit nurse in the past, so I knew to expect the long wait, especially when MB’s status changed from critical to stable about an hour after we arrived. MB actually did not need any veterinary treatment, but the three times we were evaluated by one of their veterinarians during our weight as he improved with symptoms, was helpful to come up with differential diagnoses, and make a plan of how to follow up with his primary vet when she is back from vacation. We believe it was a combination of him having issues with a change of feed about a week ago when my local Tractor Supply was out of the usual feed that I use, eating an unusually large amount of fruit the day before, and most likely having a high parasitic load. It was not only the care and support that we received, it was the care and support of every single pet and pet parent around us that were shown respect and kindness. Three beloved animals passed away, or were assisted in a peaceful passing, in the time we were there. It makes you count your blessings, and pray for those that suffer the tragedy of the death of a loved one. No human ever wants to leave a medical facility without their pet with them. Shout out to my beautifully-hearted MB also, who pulled me by his leash so intensely it almost knock me off my feet, towards a family who am I came to discover, had just lost their dog. MB has worked as a therapy goat for about a year, and he knew that family needed him in that very moment. I don’t know who the family was, but I’m so sorry for your loss. Hoping that MB gave you a moment of loving connection that may have helped to ease your pain, even if it was for a fleeting nanosecond. God bless you VEG for ALL that you do!!! AND I am so sorry that MB peed and pooped TWICE on one of your private room couches… for some reason he considered them his “litter box”. He definitely leaves an impression wherever he goes…. I will not hesitate to have you treat any of my family members when they are in need of emergency services.

Dr. Summers and the staff were so caring and knowledgeable. I was very upset and crying but they just made me feel so supported. As soon as I took my cat home she felt more like herself and I could tell she was getting better.

The entire team was helpful and answered my questions about my cat’s kittens with compassion and skill. They were able to tell me which were boys and which were girls, weighed them for us, and checked out our sweet mama cat too! They were so supportive! The staff also were attentive to my family’s needs during the time we were in the facility, and got my son a blanket because he fell asleep while we were waiting. They were wonderful! We will definitely come again when we have pet concerns after hours!
