How to Save Money at Kingsbury Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Yesterday my was first time visiting Kingsbury Animal Hospital. Exceeded my expectations! My little guy had an upset tummy. They were able to get me in the same day, the staff was so friendly and kind! The vet was amazing! He sat on the floor playing with Woody during the entire consultation. I have never had a vet do this ever. He even let Woody give him kisses! So happy I found this place!!!

I started taking my 80-lb reactive dog, Lucy, to Kingsbury when I moved to St. Louis in 2017. Going to the vet had always been a stressful experience for us as she was dog-aggressive and impossible to control with other dogs around. Kingsbury worked with us to ensure every visit was as smooth as possible. They let us enter through the side door and ensured no dogs were within sight before we entered. Lucy LOVED Dr. Shaw and so did we. He and all of the staff took excellent care of us for 7 years until we had to say goodbye to Lucy due to cancer and cognitive decline. Lucy was our world, and it was the hardest thing we've ever done -- but I know it would have been way harder without Dr. Shaw. He assured us we were making the right choice for her and that we had given her the best life we could have. It was a gentle, peaceful experience and she was surrounded by so much love and care. A few weeks later, we took the newest addition to our family, a 5-month-old pitbull mix puppy named Chef, to Kingsbury for her first vet visit with us. She was greeted with excitement and care, just as Lucy had always been. Dr. Shaw said he is excited to watch her grow and see her journey -- and we are thankful that Kingsbury will be a part of it! I couldn't recommend this vet more. :)

I have been a client at Kingsbury for four years now, following a recommendation from my previous vet in Indiana. Throughout this time, I have consistently felt respected and listened to, especially when I voiced concerns about my pet’s various health issues. The team at Kingsbury always proposes solutions that prioritize my pet’s well-being, demonstrating that they truly put pets first rather than focusing on their bottom line.

Sophia is absolutely wonderful! I have a 15 month old French Bulldog that is pretty reactive. He gets easily triggered by other dogs, so she scheduled his routine shots during a time that would be calmer in the clinic. I love coming to Kingsbury Animal Hospital because I know Louie will be in good hands. Highly recommend!

My dog Luci Furr is a special needs dog and was abused in the past. This was her first time going to a vet. Everyone there was so understanding of her needs and was very patient with her. My dog is very timid and gentle. I have autism, so to have everyone help me with the information to help her on the road to recovery and to tell me that I am doing a good job with her made me happy to know I'm going in the right direction, so thank you!!
