How to Save Money at Montevideo Veterinary Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Toft is the best and most compassionate veterinarians I have ever had the pleasure of working with. She took excellent care of my cat Annie and her advice was both understandable and sound.

The first visit to this Vet was for an initial exam and booster rabbie shot for my two newly adopted dogs. I thought it was a bit strange when she held one of my dogs down on the table restraining him while he whimpered. She said it was so that she would be able to handle him better for later visits. I also was not happy about the surgery she performed on my dogs leg as she advised we have the growth removed. 3 weeks later and the wound is still open. She told me 10 to 14 days it should be healed. When I showed her the wound at 2 weeks after the surgery and she said another 10 days before the wound would be closed. It has been 8 days and it's not much better. I called her today to tell her of my concern but it turned into a who was right conversation and she hung up on me. This is not a professional and she does not run the the clinic in a professional manner. I give her 1 star for being able to rip me off for a tube of antibiotic ointment that should have been 10 dollars, cost me 22 dollars. She didn't care about that when I told her either.

Dr. Toft is heartless to say the least. She diagnosed my dog with diabetes and gave me the options of getting him on a diet and/or on insulin. I opted to start with the diet first and monitor him closely because she made it sound like that was an option. He started getting worse last week so I called and left a message to set up an appointment but of course No one called me back. And forget trying to call on weekends because you will never reach anyone. Then on Wednesday I called and left 5 different messages during normal business hours and of course all day no one answered phone. Then at end of day she finally calls me back when she was already done for the day and says to call her in the morning. I admitted my dog to south 71 in Willmar that night. Dr. Toft called Thursday afternoon and my mom answered the phone. When told that my dog was admitted to animal hospital she preceded to then place blame on me for not putting him on insulin rite away. Am I wrong or is it not the job of a vet or any doctor to let their patient or decision maker know the risks involved with the choices presented? My dog died this morning and I do carry part of the blame for my choices, but so does Dr. Toft whether she admits it or not! I will never go there again. And would not recommend her to my worst enemy!

She's been a phenomenal help at keeping our furbaby healthy and in good spirits. Have recommended everyone I talk to to come here. She's never afraid to answer questions and give us advice when we need it.
