How to Save Money at Camden Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

WARNING….. I have a dog who has degenerative heart disease and was doing very bad on a Saturday. I made an appointment to see the vet about 40 minutes after before it was supposed to happen. I had problems getting my dog to the car. He has heart problems and I can’t move him. He is very I’ll and needs medication. I can’t get his medication without an appointment and we were late because he had issue getting into the car and crate. They showed no compassion to my dog who is dying and in the last stages of his life. They took a deposit from me which left me with no way of seeing another vet. They didn’t care at all and the suggestions they made weren’t helpful because they couldn’t refund the deposit I put down. I advise anyone who is looking for someone who cares about you pet to go somewhere else. The way they didn’t care about my dog who was literally drowning in his fluid caused my dog to sustain further damage to his heart. On top of it all I had to do a chargeback with the bank to get my money back. They could charge me but couldn’t refund me is what I was told. I had to listen to him dying and choking on fluid because they couldn’t give him the medication he needed to get the fluid off his heart. I called several other places but couldn’t get in and can’t afford the U. My heart is absolutely broken. If you care about your pet do not bring them here. I will be filing a complaint with the state for not refunding the money. Reading the reviews I had a very similar experience to Meghan and nothing has changed at this place. I was told they were a for profit hospital so that should tell people where their priorities are.

My husband and I moved to the area recently and I was nervous about switching vets for my 6 yr old lab. We went in and they were unbelievably patient with his anxiety, making sure he doesn’t hate the vet. Everyone I’ve encountered is very nice and clearly love their job. It’s awesome to see. We recently added another pup to the family and I had no worries about bringing him in. Highly recommend them.

I'm writing to express my disappointment with a recent experience at Camden Animal Hospital in North Minneapolis. While I've had positive experiences in the past, my latest visit was unfortunately marred by unprofessional and rude behavior from a staff member. Previously, I've brought my dog to Camden Animal Hospital on several occasions, including for checkups and when I first adopted my new puppy. The staff was always friendly and helpful, and I never had any issues. However, on my last visit, I brought my dog in for a possible UTI infection. Unfortunately, the experience was very different. The woman at the front desk, an older white lady, was extremely rude and dismissive from the start. When I asked questions about pricing and why another checkup was necessary given a recent visit to another clinic, she responded with hostility. Here are some specific concerns: * Dismissive Attitude: My questions regarding pricing and checkup necessity were met with a flippant "if you can't afford it" comment. This was unprofessional and irrelevant to my inquiry. * Lack of Explanation: Despite explaining that affordability wasn't the concern, the staff member refused to explain why another physical was needed. * Sarcastic and Rude Behavior: The interaction continued with a sarcastic and rude tone, including misogynistic remarks. This type of behavior is unacceptable in any customer service setting. Following this upsetting encounter, I called back a few months later to schedule another appointment. A different employee informed me that I had been banned from the clinic due to alleged rudeness on my part, which was demonstrably false. I ended the call feeling frustrated and unheard. It's disheartening that advocating for my dog's health and asking questions were interpreted as rudeness. I believe in responsible pet ownership, and part of that includes seeking information and understanding treatment options. I urge the leadership team at Camden Animal Hospital to address potential biases within the staff. Cultural sensitivity training and clear communication protocols could help prevent similar situations in the future. A focus on professionalism and customer service is essential for any business, especially one dealing with animal care. I hope this review will be considered as an opportunity for improvement. Please note: This review focuses on the unprofessional behavior of a specific staff member and doesn't reflect on the potential skills of other Camden Animal Hospital employees.

Camden Pet Hospital is great. They took excellent care of my past two dogs (Nigel & Rocco) and now I am bringing Mario & Luigi. Rocco was no easy dog. He was reactive and needed to be sedated. They were always tolerable of my rules. Now, Mario seems to be afraid. Again, they are great at listening and working with the client. I highly recommend them.
