How to Save Money at Veterinary Healthcare Associates
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They are amazing. Amy and Autumn answered the phone and helped me through the panic as we rushed out our chihuahua to the hospital for a sprained neck. They took him to the back quick to check up on him and quickly let us know he was alright. They brought us back in a towel and everything making sure he was alright. They were quick about getting us medication for him and even was quick on checking us out. I recommend this place to everyone!!! Thank you so much.

I was referred by a family friend on September 13 when my cat Minx was in bad shape from blockage. Its a 40 minute ride from Avon Park but honestly there are no other options so I got him in the van and headed north. It was already pretty late at night so the emergency facility was thankfully not to busy. They took him in almost instantly so I was given a bit of relief. The facility is impeccable and you will not find a friendlier and more courteous staff. They are super nice.I was there for roughly 5 hours before someone came in with the results and told me my cat was not blocked.Without going into great negative detail the Doctor that came in was basically telling me my cat was ok and prescribed some meds. I couldn't really understand the diagnosis at all because Minx was not urinating prior to or after the visit. I brought him home and things just were not getting better so I drove back the next day and the day staff were also very nice and quick to get him in. It took them about 15 minutes before telling me he was positively suffering from blockage. I could not afford a four day procedure so I had no choice but to do a one time catheter procedure. I do not see the veterinarian's name on my invoice but she was patient. pleasant and took the time to explain the treatment and outcome scenario's. A nice person to deal with for sure. Speaking of nice person's the absolute best part of this visit was hands down having Stepanie A. the er-tech in my corner throughout the whole procedure. Never after 35 years of vet visits have I witnessed compassion like this woman has for animals and people as well. She constantly kept me informed throughout the whole waiting and did everything beyond the call of duty to give me all the knowledge she could about the procedure, costs and everything in between. Also she was suppose to get off work but stayed numerous hours overtime to make sure Minx was looked after and im thankful for that. Stephanie carried Minx in wrapped in a blanket after the procedure and you could just feel how much she truly cares. I dont know if she is studying to become a veterinarian but I hope she is because she has the temperament to be a great one. Can't thank her enough!! Also I want to note that I stayed persistant with giving Minx his urinary food and started treating him with some homeopathic options and it was a bit rough for him the first 10 day's but he is now doing well (knock on wood) and hopefully he will continue to do so. This is a state of the art facility with a nice staff and my thanks to all of them. Sincerely, Dennis C.

i went to the er for my distress kitten. i left and he had a hole in his neck which later got infected i called and took him back because they said they would investigate to see if it was their fault but of course they said it wasn’t. they never took accountability or apologized for what they did. they just wanted me to put him down when he was still fighting. he was doing good until the hole they left in his neck became an abscess. i will never again take my animals there again. they never tried to actually help him their only choice was to put him down. they didn’t truly care about his health. my poor meep boy has passed away since then due to their negligence 🙁🩷
