How to Save Money at First Coast No More Homeless Pets
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They really are amazing! My cat has had a complete 180• since having her teeth removed! She was afflicted with a horrible case of stomatitis! Couldn’t eat before the surgery was in so much pain! The stomatitis had her unable to eat and play, I missed my happy kitty. It has been just over two month's since the removal of her infected teeth. She can eat and all the weight has nearly been recovered her quality of life has returned! Thanks again to all of the caring individuals that work here!

On 5/7/24 my Earth Angel in a dog suit, Max, was summoned to the rainbow. The compassion and kindness I received from EVERYONE was heartwarming. I wrote the following after I returned home: Earth Angels Wear Dog Suits Tracy G. Allen Earth Angels appear in all shapes and forms but mostly Earth Angels wear dog suits. One could learn a lot from an Earth Angel wearing a dog suit. They know how precious life is so they live their lives to the fullest Earth Angels take nothing for granted. They know time is of essence so they live for the moment. They appreciate all which surrounds them. An Earth Angel exercises great patience when dealing with the spare parts human. They may fuss, but they never complain. Well, there is one feisty fella on the internet, named Walter Geoffrey. Walter Geoffrey always has something to say about everything. Still, I do not believe Walter Geoffrey complains. Earth Angels are fueled with unconditional love. They are always happy to see their spare parts human and become ecstatic and playful when the love is reciprocated. Earth Angels are great listeners. They hear everything you have to say. Earth Angels are loyal. They will never tell your secrets. Regardless of the question, an Earth Angels answer will always be the same; LOVE BABY LOVE. One could learn a lot from an Earth Angel wearing a dog suit….. Today, I am taking my Earth Angel in his beautiful dog suit to the vet. I don’t know if there is anything the vet can do. Maxwell Cadillac is his name. He is 13 years old and his health is on the decline. I have been mostly awake and crying for the past two evenings. I am devastated. I do not want him to leave in his physical form. This guy is my world. He means everything to me. It feels like my world is going to collapse. My heart is slowly being crushed. I have no words to describe the intense love I feel for this precious gift. Of all the spare part humans on this planet, he chose me. I feel so honored and privileged. HE CHOSE ME.

Brought my dog in because she was having an allergic reaction. Her throat, snout, and mouth swelling shut. She was whining continually clearly something wrong. concerned we brought her here thinking they could quickly give an antihistamine or injection or SOMETHING. anything to keep the swelling down. As it was getting worse on the DRIVE THERE. we waited in line for 25 minuets , only to be told "oh the vets are leaving in an HOUR AND A HALF we can't treat her today." I don't know about anyone else but a VET REFUSING to give an animal brought in for an ALLERGIC reaction SOME form of relief to keep their THROAT and WIND PASSAGES from SWELLING (which SHOULD TAKE NO MORE THAN TEN MINUETS TOPS) IS COMPLETELY UNNACCEPTABLE.

I’ve been going here for over 14 years and have been a loyal supporter for them. Tried to support this place despite the long wait times at times. Initially had my appointment for 09/30/24 but received a phone call saying the doctor had to reschedule so they moved me to today. Fought traffic and drove for over an hour to get here. Finally got here today at 4:38pm for my 4:30pm appointment and stood in line until called up. The staff and doctor TRIED TO TURN ME AWAY and reschedule AGAIN. I told them why on earth would they need to reschedule me? I got there a few minutes after 4:30 and have been waiting in line to get called on. This will be my last time with this place. They have no respect or consideration for my time and loyalty to support them and hard work it took to drive over to them. I have never been turned away for arriving 8 minutes past my appointment time (while also standing in line waiting to be called on) and then treated like they can’t even treat my dog for vaccines because of that. I was understanding for when the doctor when they had to reschedule me and had to rearrange my whole schedule for them, so you would think that even if I was a few minutes past my appointment time, they would be understanding and make sure to take me? I have always been kind and gracious with them and today their poor attitudes and the fact that doctor wouldn’t even bring me back into a room for treatment is utterly unacceptable. Doctor won’t even come out to talk to me or apologize. Very very disappointed and turned off with this place. No more homeless pets will be receiving no more business from me.
