How to Save Money at Meadowrun Affordable Pet Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Making an appointment was easy. Staff was friendly and helpful. Our cat had some unique symptoms. The vet at Meadowrun took extra time to be sure to determine the correct diagnosis and treatment. Our cat was better almost immediately. I would say pricing is average and fair. Very good experience overall. Will definitely go back.

I'll update after the next visit. But the loss of two stars was for three reasons. But let's start with the good. The Vet tech was amazing! She gave me her name, took great care & time with my Mother's cat. The Doctor was nice, friendly and gave the cat a good exam. I don't know her name because she & no one else gave it to me. That should be a first from the staff. The place was clean , parking good, location fine. The loss of the two stars was because upon making the apt, check in & follow up "Sharon" was unprofessional & condensending. Asking a question she gets flustered & has a rude tone in her voice, ignores the question & repeats herself. She gave me an apt on the wrong day & I started rescheduling my clients before she called back. She told me they "have a lab there & it was $150 vs. them sending it out. If they sent it out it would be $500.00!" But the doctor told me opposite. She said $165 to send out & "much, much more to do them there" . So I really don't know why would be more to send out, but I believe the vet. Before hand, while I was waiting Sharon was rude to two people. One on the phone she was short with and got frustrated with & the otherbone in person because she again asked two questions at once. When I walked in I said hi how are you, she replied " I'm here & frowned, she then said well so are you so". Then today again rude. Remember the first person you interact with at any business sets the stage & tone. I myself will make up my mind when the diagnosis is made and a treatment plan has been discussed

Amazing!!! I’ve been to a multiple vets in Florida and this one definitely beats all of them! I had came in late due to a family emergency and had called to see if they could still get me in and they were so generous! This place is wonderful!! Clean, amazing people, we will definitely be back!! Thank you for all you do! Laney was having an amazing time from belly rubs to all the care these staff members put into her!!

Took my granddaughters dog into Meadowrun this week. She had never been there before. The staff immediately made her feel welcomed and safe. The dr and techs took their time letting her get to know them. She is a five year old Doberman and although she is big she is timid. It was a good experience for her and me. We will definitely return.

Was quoted one price over phone and when in person, it changed for a rabies shot for cat. They said an increase just happened from the couple weeks before when I called to my appointment. That part was shoddy. Hense the no 5 stars. Appreciated the call to apologize even though I was wasn't refunded the difference when I was told by the vet tech in the room the office may refund me the difference when they review the call. Prices aren't too crazy and people there were nice. It's close to home and needed a new place to take all our cats to eventually. Overall not a horrible experience. Will give them another try in future 🙂
