How to Save Money at Alaska SPCA Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Easy to make an appointment, quick check in, friendly and just a few minutes later my pup was back with me. 3 year Rabies vaccine plus 2 other necessary vaccines for $80 vs the $400+ I paid last year to a chain vet clinic. The only negative is that there are some sketchy people hanging around the area. Not the fault of the clinic of course, but be warned. Don't leave your car unlocked whether you are in it or not.

I’m very grateful for the price and quality of the Alaska SPCA spay service. My kitty got spayed on 1/13 and she is recovering nicely. I was very lucky to have gotten a fast appointment. Once I filled out the spay request online, I received a call the next day and had a surgery appointment within 2 days. I dropped my kitty off for surgery at 7am and didn’t receive a call to pick her up until around 4:30 pm. When I received the call, the front desk lady went through discharge instructions briefly over the phone. When I arrived at the clinic, I was expecting to have the vet or a vet tech speak to me about the post-op recovery process, but this did not happen. I was extremely anxious about the process, since this is the first time I’ve ever had to get a pet fixed. I had quite a bit of questions and it would have been nice to at least speak to someone about the recovery process so that I could have felt reassured and confident about caring for my pet post-op. They do, however, allow you to call or email them with any questions you may have. Also, they do not give you pain medicine to take home for recovery. This was also a surprise to me as I was thought it was the norm to be given pain medication. Thankfully, my cat has shown no signs of being in pain.

I would like to thank the hard working people and the Veterinarians at this clinic. You are the only place that would help my beautiful Cali in a time of desperation and need. You saved her life, thanks to you guys my Cali will get to live to be old and happy. We were turned away by so many clinics because of our inconvenient financial situation. We feared we would lose Cali. Luckily God shined his light and at the very bottom was the Alaska SPCA clinic. This clinic not only saved a precious innocent life, but brought light to a family in a time of darkness. I highly recommend this clinic to EVERYONE with a furry family member. They will treat you and your babies right!

I am reviewing their spay and neuter services. My dogs vet gave us a quote for spay that was 5 times what the spca asks for! So we turned to them and were not disappointed in price, quality, their professionalism and their compassion for the animals. Thank you for spaying our girl (the one in the funny cone!)
