How to Save Money at San Antonio Wellness Spay and Neuter Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am absolutely in love with this place! I have been trying to get my girl spayed for about 3 months and everywhere I called had insane wait times like 4-6 weeks out for appointments or were ridiculously expensive. The vet I usually go to wanted to charge me almost $600. I found this clinic by googling low cost spay/neuter clinics. It was far for me. Literally the other side of the city but when I started looking at prices and appointment availability I decided it was worth it. On Thursday 5/16/24 I went to their website to schedule her surgery, they had availability for FRIDAY 5/17/24! So I made the appointment and paid the $50 deposit. Drop off was between 7-7:30 am. I got there about 7:15 and there was a line of other people dropping off their pets as well. I actually got her checked in about 8 and then had to leave. About 1 pm I got a call asking if I would like them to trim her nails for an additional $12 which I agreed to because she needed it done. I arrived at 4:15 to pick her up (pick up is from 4-4:30) I went in the door that I dropped her off at and they told me to go back outside and go to the next door down. Again there were other people waiting for their pets so it was a short wait, literally probably about 15 minutes and the staff kept apologizing for the wait time. They get one dose of pain medicine as part of the surgery for the next day. My girl did vomit a small amount last night but only once and today she is eating and drinking normally. She slept a lot yesterday but today is already trying to be her normal self. I think we’re going to start going there for all of our preventative care These are pictures of her and her mama this morning 🥰

My baby boy blue has gotten everything done at this clinic from his puppy packs, neuter, all of his vaccines + tests & boosters and even his teeth cleaned! I’m always super happy with how affordable the prices are and my boy always comes out with a happy face and tail within minutes. I’ve had 3 other babies within everyone’s care there and it always goes smoothly each and every time. I absolutely love it here and I know my fur baby’s do to! *all of the babies were closely monitored at the time of their surgery’s and weren’t allowed out of my room until 7 days after*

Awesome experience, nice staff, lots of open availability, and very inexpensive. I took my male cat to get neutered and everything went well as if nothing even happened to him! Did a $50 deposit when I set up the appointment. When I got there, I got him neutered, nails trimmed, and microchipped all for $99 even. Lots of places were booked, but this place had appointments available!

We took our husky last week after easily scheduling her surgery on their website portal. We arrived a few minutes before their 7-730 am drop off and we were first in line. When they opened door at 7am, we were processed quickly. Clinic looked clean and well-staffed. It was inexpensive, which was a Godsend for us. The staff was courteous. They were done with her by 2pm. I can't thank them enough for doing a great job on our baby girl! May God bless those people for doing what they do! Thank you!
